Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 6-12, 2024, and it's a great opportunity to ensure the smoke detectors in your home are working properly. Smoke alarms should be tested monthly, have their batteries swapped once a year or when the alarm chirps, and be replaced every 10 years.
If you'd like extra assistance, the Queen Creek Fire & Medical Department offers a free smoke detector maintenance program — you can request Community Assistance Program volunteers to your home to inspect, change batteries, clean, and if needed, replace smoke detectors in your home. LEARN MORE.

Bermuda versus Rye Grass: How Should I Water this Fall?
Did you know? Warm weather bermuda grass and cool weather rye grass should be watered differently. FIND A FREE WATER GUIDE.
BERMUDA GRASS
- Water a Bermuda grass lawn once every three days during the summer.
- Even during the hottest part of the summer, most lawns don’t need to be watered daily. Applying sixto 10 inches of water every time you irrigate promotes deeper root growth, making your lawn more water-efficient.
- In the winter, Bermuda grass lawns go dormant and need to be watered to the depth of eight to 10 inches once every 15 to 30 days. If we get a heavy winter rain, wait an additional 15 to 30 days before running your sprinklers again. With a little luck, you may not need to water your dormant Bermuda grass all winter long!
RYEGRASS
- If you overseed with ryegrass in winter, water to the depth of six to 10 inches every seven to 14days after it is established.
Save the Date for Pancake Breakfast!

Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips
Halloween is an exciting time of year, but it can also come with increased risks. The Town of Queen Creek, the Queen Creek Police Department and the Queen Creek Fire & Medical Department want residents to enjoy a fun and safe Halloween. Since most Halloween events occur at night, the risk of injury to children increases. REVIEW SAFETY TIPS.
🎃 Halloween Trash & Recycling Tips
Don’t let your Halloween waste haunt you! Follow these tips to make trash and recycling less scary this spooky season.
- Candy wrappers cannot be recycled! Please place them in the trash.
- The plastic bags Halloween candy is sold in cannot be recycled in your blue cart. Check with your local grocery store to see if they are currently accepting plastic bags for recycling.
- Halloween decorations (including pumpkins) should go in your trash cart for disposal.
