The Streets Division maintains asphalt on all Town owned property, the trail system, and some residential neighborhoods. Maintenance methods include patch & repair, Crack Sealing, and Sealcoating. 

Asphalt pavement is designed to be flexible for adaptation to the wide temperature swings in Arizona. The flexing causes cracks to develop in even relatively new pavement, and will continue to crack throughout the usable life of the roadway surface. To limit deterioration, cracks are filled with a rubberized sealant called "crack seal". Crack seal keeps out water and fills voids in the surface.

Three types of sealcoats may be applied that will extend the life of the pavement. An acrylic seal is a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that prevents oxidation and adds asphalt material to the surface course. For seal protection and added wear surface, a slurry seal mixture made of asphalt emulsion, water and sand is applied. Chip seal is a thin asphalt emulsion followed by small grade aggregate providing additional surface wear and sealing to road surface.

The Streets Division conducts inspections and preventive maintenance of sidewalks within Town limits.  Sidewalks can be repaired by methods of surface grinding for uneven levels, crack and joint filling, or replacing segments of concrete. 

The Streets Division is responsible for maintaining over 2600 total inlets and outfalls that are part of the Town's storm water drainage system. These storm drains guide water from the streets to washes, box culverts, and retention basins.

It's important to perform inspections and routine maintenance on the Town's storm water drainage system. Without proper maintenance, rain water from storms could flood onto roadways and into neighborhoods causing damage and potential environmental hazards.

The Streets Division provides Emergency Services 24 hours a day. Emergency Services include, but are not limited to, responding to roadway hazards/right of way hazards, responding to storm events and road flooding, providing support for accidents, and setting up emergency traffic control.

The right of way maintenance program consist of vegetation management, pothole repair, graffiti abatement, road/shoulder maintenance, debris removal, paver repair, dust control and dead animal service.

When a small isolated section of roadway fails, we call it a "pothole." Typically water has seeped under the pavement surface, creating pockets of water that fracture the surface when traffic compresses the water underneath. These potholes are temporarily repaired with a cold asphalt mix. If a section of roadway has numerous failures, it's because the sub-base under the road surface is compromised

The Streets Division maintains over 11,300 signs and 7,877 sign posts within Town limits.  The division also performs lane and parking lot striping at all Town owned properties.

Streets Division Staff provide street sweeping services throughout the Town of Queen Creek based on a well developed mapping process to ensure each street is maintained properly. Clean streets provide safe driving conditions, improve Air Quality and improve Stormwater runoff contamination. Over 450 linear residential and arterial miles are swept monthly.
