Most trash and recycling trucks are armed with an automated electronic arm that grabs and empties the can. This efficient process streamlines collection and prevents potential injuries.

To ensure your carts are collected on your weekly scheduled service day, please do the following:

• Place your cart in the street with its wheels against the curb by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
• Place your carts at least three feet apart (and five feet away from mailboxes, vehicles, trees, or driveways).
• Do not block the sidewalk.
• Do not place your carts near parked vehicles.
• Do not place your carts in the landscape.
• Do not place your carts near trees.

Please remember that both carts must have lids closed and not be overfilled with items. Trash must be bagged and tied, and recyclables should be kept loose. Carts have a maximum capacity of 200 pounds. Overfilled carts may not be serviced, so remember to shut your lids!

Most households will find that one trash cart (sandstone-colored) and one recycling cart (blue) will be sufficient if the recycling cart is used for the full range of recyclable materials.

Town residents may order one extra recycling cart without an additional monthly charge. An additional trash cart can be requested for an added monthly fee.

If you anticipate needing additional carts upon establishing new service, you may order them before the delivery date, or at any time. However, we recommend you wait until you have experienced the new program for a few weeks to determine your actual capacity needs.

Queen Creek Ordinance 469 § 10-8-10 states that residents shall ensure carts are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. The Town does not provide container cleaning services, nor will it replace a container because it is dirty or smells. There is an additional charge for each cart that is exchanged for a new one.

Here are some tips for keeping your cart clean:

• Bag and tie your trash
• Bag and tie grass
• Bag or bundle and tie yard clippings
• Keep recyclables loose (and ensure they are clean before recycling to avoid contamination)

To clean your cart, it is recommended to use a non-hazardous cleaning solution. The following is a natural solution that is simple to use and a cost effective way to keep your cart clean.

What you will need:

• Water hose
• Scrub brush or spray nozzle
• Dishwashing liquid soap or Borax detergent
• Baking soda (used as an abrasive cleaner AND odor eater!)

To clean the cart:

1. Spray the cart with water
2. Wash the cart with detergent and baking soda
3. Rinse the cart with water
4. Air dry the cart with the lid open
