The Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department's FREE Smoke Detector Maintenance Program uses trained volunteers to ensure that smoke detectors are working properly in residential homes. Volunteers will inspect, change batteries, clean and if needed, replace smoke detectors. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), working smoke detectors cut the chance of dying in a house fire in half. Three out of five fire-related deaths result from fires taking place in homes with no smoke detectors or no working smoke detectors.
