Before you irrigate, the following steps are essential to help you best utilize the irrigation you receive.

• Laser level the area to be irrigated.
• Mow grass before irrigation delivery.
• Check berms to ensure you won’t lose any water; an unsecured berm will allow water to escape. Property owners are responsible for keeping the water contained in their yards.
• Ensure animals, vehicles, and other precious items are out of harm’s way.
• Remove all debris from the area to be irrigated that may clog gates, trenches or valves.
• Do not order more water than your bermed area will hold.
• Check for gopher holes. Water that escapes through a gopher hole could show up in an area you did not intend to irrigate. Items in that unintended area could get harmed or destroyed.
• In areas where the irrigation department opens and closes valves on your property, access to your property on the specified irrigation day is critical. Should access be unavailable, water cannot be delivered, and irrigation charges will still apply.

Effective July 1, 2010, the Town Council approved new rates for water services. All water charges are subject to state and local sales tax, and all water usage is subject to the Arizona Water Use Tax.

*Only applies to subdivisions where the Queen Creek Water Division opens and closes valves.

These are some helpful terms related to irrigation.

• Berm – a ridge of dirt that holds water in on irrigated property.
• CFS (cubic feet per second) – the measure of how much water is flowing past a certain point in one second.
• Redhead – the valve that screws open and closed to control the flow of irrigation in your yard.
• Acre-foot – the amount of water required to cover one acre to a depth of one foot. An acre-foot equals 325,851 gallons, or 43,560 cubic feet. A flow of one cubic feet per second produces 1.98 acre-feet per day.
