Notes:
(1) AWWU is the “average winter water use” during the months of December, January, & February.
(2) R3 usage rate based on 70% of active residential customer’s AWWU, which is updated annually.
A residential monthly wastewater cap is established at 17,000 gallons of water use (11,900 gallons with 70% flow factor) when determining the average winter water use.
R1: Residential I – With an individual water meter such as single family detached.
R2: Residential II – Other, with landscaping on a separate meter, such as condominiums.
R3: Residential III – New customers prior to establishing the AWWU.
C1: Commercial and Industrial I – Landscaping on separate meters and no pretreatment; includes office buildings, apartments, retails, restaurants, schools, employment, etc.
C2: Commercial and Industrial II – Landscaping on the same meter and no pretreatment; includes Queen Creek Middle School, Canyon State Academy, and some Town Center office conversions.
C3: Commercial and Industrial III – C1 with pretreatment.
B1: Builder I – Between issuance of building permit and certificate of occupancy.
Sewer Rates Calculated During Winter Months:
If you are a residential customer or a commercial business with landscape watering connected to the same meter as the building and you are connected to Town of Queen Creek's sewer system or live in the subdivisions of Queen Creek Ranchettes I or II, Terra Ranch or the area known as Town Center and receive a billing for sewer charges on your water bill, your monthly sewer charges are recalculated each year in July. Fees are based on 70 percent (for single-family residence) of the average water consumption billed during three (3) 28 to 35 day billing cycles during the winter months. This could include water consumption in all or portions of November, December, January and February depending on when your water meter is read.
Since July 2021 the water consumption used to recalculate monthly residential sewer charges has been capped at 17,000 gallons, which equates to a total monthly sewer charge of $67.61. As a result, as of July 2021 $67.61 is the maximum monthly residential sewer charge.
Residential sewer charges are currently calculated as follows:
(Average water use less 30%) x ($4.82) plus the Base Fee of $10.25 = Monthly Sewer Charge*
*If you are a new customer, your monthly sewer fee will be $36.39 until we are able to establish your average water usage during the three winter billing cycles.
You can lower your sewer bill by conserving water during the winter averaging period. One of the most effective ways to conserve water during the wintertime is to adjust your outside watering schedule for lawns and landscaping. Keep in mind that winter watering requires far less water than summer. Also, if you are planning to fill a swimming pool, we recommend doing so outside of the winter averaging period in order to minimize the potential impact on your sewer fee calculations for the following year. New sewer averages become effective annually in July.
You may qualify for a sewer fee adjustment if you fill a swimming pool or experience a significant water leak during the winter averaging period. If you wish to submit a sewer fee adjustment form, we recommend doing by June 1 to ensure the adjustment, if approved, can be processed and applied to your bill in July. Adjustment requests can be submitted at any point after June 1, however, such adjustments will only affect future bills; historical billing cycles will not be adjusted. Approved sewer adjustments remain in effect until the following June's billing cycle regardless of when the adjustment form was submitted. Finally, sewer fee adjustments become effective annually in July. If you have questions regarding your current or projected billing amount, please contact 480-358-3450.
