MAYOR

The Mayor is directly elected by the qualified electors of the Town for a four-year term. There are no term limits in Queen Creek, meaning there is no limit to the number of times an incumbent may run for re-election.

As the primary spokesperson for the community and head of the Town, the Mayor is often required to attend numerous regularly scheduled regional meetings. Additionally, there are many other time commitments required throughout the work week, including some impromptu meetings and appointments. The Mayor spends an average of approximately 60 hours per month on Town obligations.

The Mayor:

  • Is the official head of the Town;
  • Is the presiding officer of all Town Council meetings and various ceremonial occasions in the community;    
  • Serves as the spokesperson for the community;
  • Assists the Town Council in setting goals and advocating policy decisions;
  • Signs all official documents relating to the Town of Queen Creek; and
  • Appoints members to various advisory committees and commissions with the advice and consent of Town Council members.

VICE MAYOR

Appointed by the Queen Creek Mayor and approved by a majority of the Town Council, the Vice Mayor position is filled annually in January.

The Vice Mayor and Council Members serve in a back-up role for the Mayor and are sometimes needed as a spokesperson for the community and stand-in as head of the Town. The Vice Mayor, along with the other members of the Town Council, represents the Town on various regional and local committees. These committees include, but are not limited to, the East Valley Partnership, Maricopa Association of Governments, League of Arizona Cities and Towns, Central Arizona Governments, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and other affiliated committees and subcommittees. Additionally, there are often other time commitments required throughout the work week, including some impromptu meetings and appointments. The Vice Mayor spends an average of approximately 40 hours per month on Town obligations.

The Vice Mayor:  

  • In the Mayor’s absence, shall serve as the presiding officer of the Town Council meeting and/or at various ceremonial occasions in the community;
  • In the Mayor’s absence, sign official documents relating to the Town of Queen Creek; and
  • Serve as the direct point of contact between the Queen Creek Town Council and the elected officials of the community's school districts (officially known as School Liaison).

COUNCIL MEMBERS

Council Members serve staggered four-year terms. There are no term limits in Queen Creek.

Council members may also serve as back-up role for the Mayor and are sometimes needed as a spokesperson for the community and stand-in as head of the Town. Council Members also represent the Town on various regional and local committees, including, but not limited to, the East Valley Partnership, Maricopa Association of Governments, League of Arizona Cities and Towns, Central Arizona Governments, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and other affiliated committees and subcommittees. Additionally, there are often other time commitments required throughout the work week, including some impromptu meetings and appointments. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL

  • Part-time positions under the Council/Manager form of government;
  • Serve as promoters of the Queen Creek community;
  • Respond to and interact with residents, neighborhoods; neighborhood associations, and the business community using a variety of forms;
  • To appoint the Town Manager to act as administrative head of the various Town departments and employees;
  • Participate in all activities listed for the Town Council; and
  • Voting members of the Town Council.
