A recap of what your Town Council has been up to during the month of January. 

On January 3, Vice Mayor Jeff Brown attended the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Passing of the Gavel Ceremony. 2024 Maricopa County

Mayor Wheatley was invited by Maricopa County Board Chair Jack Sellers to provide the invocation at the January 10 Board of Supervisors Meeting.

On January 12, Ashley Furniture HomeStore held their ribbon cutting at Queen Creek Crossing. Mayor Wheatley and Council Member McClure participated, with Mayor providing welcome remarks.

The 2024 Citizen Leadership Institute held its first session on January 16. Mayor Wheatley provided welcome remarks and Council Members Benning, Martineau and Padilla also spoke to attendees. CLI 2024

At the January 17 Town Council Meeting, the Town Council recognized Eagle Scout Luke Ochoa for his achievement and for pacing little libraries in the Town.

The Town Council also recognized Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department Firefighter Robert Keay who received the 2023 Paramedic of the Year Award from Banner Ironwood.

Art of the Cowgirl Week was proclaimed January 15-22 and many members of the local equestrian community, including Art of the Cowgirl participants and 2023 Miss Rodeo America Kennadee Riggs were in attendance to accept the proclamation from the Town Council at the January 17 meeting.

Queen Creek also recognized January as Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness Month. At their January 17 meeting, Town Council presented the proclamation for this month to Jason Turner, a representative with Not in Our City.

Council Member Leah Martineau was appointed by Mayor Wheatley on January 17 to serve as Vice Mayor for a one-year period. Mayor Wheatley also recognized outgoing Vice Mayor Jeff Brown for his years of service in the position.

On January 18, Council Member Robin Benning attended the 28th annual Central Arizona Governments (CAG) Legislative Day at the State Capitol. Council Member Benning serves on the CAG Board of Directors.

For our Town Queen Creek held its second meeting on January 23. Mayor Wheatley addressed attendees. Vice Mayor Martineau and Council Members Brown, McClure, Oliphant and Padilla were also in attendance.

Mayor Wheatley participated in a roundtable of Maricopa County Mayors hosted by Congressman Ruben Gallego on January 25.

On January 26, Mayor Wheatley sat down with the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce for their first 2024 installment of Coffee and a Mic event.

The San Tan Historical Society held a celebration for its new exhibit on Saturday, January 27. Mayor Julia Wheatley and Council Members Bryan McClure and Travis Padilla attended the exhibit opening.

Mayor Julia Wheatley participated in the GPEC Ambassador Event: Addressing Housing Supply in the Region as a panel speaker on January 30.
