Library incorporates environmentally-friendly features
The Queen Creek Library is the first municipal building in Queen Creek constructed under the Town’s Green Building Policy and registered under the U.S Green Building Council for its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program. The new library, which received LEED Gold certification in 2009, features state-of-the-art construction practices and materials that decrease energy consumption, save money, reduce environmental impacts, and provide a healthy interior environment.
Cost savings of sustainable construction
It’s estimated that the 2 percent increase in up-front construction costs for making the library a green building will be quickly recouped by the Town. The green features, including energy and water-efficient systems, will generate a savings over years to come. National experience with LEED-certified buildings shows a payback on additional design and construction costs in less than 10 years then continued savings over the life of the building.
Self-guided green building walking tour
Residents are encouraged to follow the self-guided green building walking tour to see the building’s green features up close. To start the self-guided tour, look for the Green Building Walking Tour brochures in the community information racks under the Green Building sign displayed in the library’s lobby. The map in the brochure shows points of interest around the site, with descriptions about each feature. Smaller signs with coordinating descriptions will be posted around the site to indicate the location of the points of interest.
Going green at home
Residents who would like to 'go green' at home are encouraged to visit the solar energy systems page for information on reduced, flat fees for permitting.
