Roots N' Boots Tickets on Sale 

Get your tickets early for one of Queen Creek’s biggest events to be held in March at Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre, located at 20464 E. Riggs Road. Activities start Wednesday, March 13 with community barrel races, team roping and sorting competitions. Friday through Sunday, March 15-17, come out for plenty of family activities, vendors and demonstrations, as well as the PRCA Pro Rodeo and Carnival with plenty of special surprises in store! Firework Safety

As a reminder, sparklers and novelty fireworks are only allowed for use within the Town of Queen Creek from Dec. 24 – Jan. 3. They are only allowed on private property, and individuals who use, discharge or ignite permissible consumer fireworks are responsible and liable for expenses as a result of any emergency response that is required by such use, discharge or ignition. Here are four easy steps to safely dispose of your fireworks.

1. Fill a bucket with water.

2. Place all fireworks in the bucket, submerge in water overnight.

3. Wrap fireworks tightly in a plastic bag the following day.

4. Place the plastic bag in your trash cart.

Holiday Recycling- Jan. 5 and 12

Recycle your Christmas trees on Saturday, Jan. 5 and 12.  Live Christmas trees, electronics, appliances and latex or water-based paint will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon at the Queen Creek Field Operations Facility, at 19715 S. 220th St. (off 220th Street, north of Queen Creek Road behind Barney Family Sports Complex). The event is open to Queen Creek residents with a current Town of Queen Creek trash and recycling account- please bring a copy of your water bill. Tires and household hazardous waste (HHW) will NOT be accepted. You can also schedule a bulk pick-up for your Christmas tree online. Learn more.

The Town also offers a free cooking oil recycling program. The used oil is collected and turned into clean biodiesel fuel. The collection receptacle is available year-round at Fire Station 2 located at 24787 S. Sossaman Road.  

Water-Smart Workshop- Jan. 12

While it’s still cool, learn how to plan and implement the perfect shading techniques for your home, garden or outdoor space on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9–10:30 a.m. at Historic Town Hall (22358 S. Ellsworth Road). The class is FREE to Town of Queen Creek utility customers, but advanced registration is required as space is limited.  Register here.

QCUSD Open House- Jan. 23

Queen Creek Unified School District invites you to attend an open house for the 2019-2020 school year. Come find out why so many families have chosen QCUSD, the East Valley's premier district of choice! During the open house, you will have the opportunity to register your student for school. Additionally, district leaders will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

The first-ever QCUSD enrollment open house is Wednesday, Jan. 23, 5 to 7 p.m. at the district office located at 20217 E. Chandler Heights Road. Learn more.

Town of Queen Creek Recognized as Best Place to Work

Queen Creek’s workplace culture and commitment to employees helped the Town rank as one of the top 20 Best Places to Work by the Phoenix Business Journal for the fourth consecutive year. Recognizing over 100 businesses in five categories, the Town of Queen Creek ranked 11th in the mid-sized category (99 to 249 employees), and was once again the only government entity recognized in any of the categories. Avoid Freezing Pipes

Water expands as it freezes and the expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever is containing it, including metal or plastic pipes. Pipes that freeze most frequently are those that are exposed to severe cold, like outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines, water sprinkler lines, and water supply pipes in unheated interior areas like basements and crawl spaces, attics, or garages. Pipes that run against exterior walls that have little or no insulation are also subject to freezing. Whether you are a residential customer or commercial business, following these simple tips may help you avoid costly repairs.

• Wrap the pipes, vacuum breakers and backflow devices - If your pipes are in areas that don't get warm air, consider insulating them with insulation sleeves or wrapping. Don’t forget to wrap the above-ground vacuum breaker to your landscape watering system and the swimming pool supply lines. Commercial businesses should take special care to protect their backflow devices from freezing.

• Always disconnect the water hose from outdoor spigots before the temperature in the area drops below freezing. - The water inside the hose can freeze, and the freezing continues back into the spigot until it reaches your pipes. Any pipe that freezes can burst.

Drain your pipes - If you're taking a trip in the winter, consider draining your pipes to prevent them from bursting. Shut off the main valve and then turn on all the taps (hot and cold) and let the water run until the pipes are emptied.
