QC Library: You & The Computer

Computers

Welcome to the first class of 2011. We'll begin by discussing the basics of the computer (hardware like the mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.), then we'll move onto practicing hands-on with Windows (using XP). By the midpoint of class, we hope to be able to manage the desktop & task-bar, as well as arrange files and documents (saving, moving, or deleting files) using the mouse. For the last half of the session, we get in control. We'll start hopping online & exploring the Internet. We'll take a look at a few components that are commonly found on Web browsers & discuss some common terms (such as "favorites", "homepage", "antivirus" & "spyware"). By the end of class, we'll be surfing through sites like Google, Bing, & Yahoo! Anyone & everyone is welcome to join this session--all that's required is the openness to ask questions & the willingness to practice! If you're a beginner looking to learn more about computers, or if you're an avid user wanting to hone your skills, this course will have something for you. This is an open-forum session-- our pace will be dictated by the skill level of who attends. Registration needed. Conference Room. At the Maricopa County Library District's Queen Creek Branch Library.
