Day for Kids

Kid's DayThe Town of Queen Creek is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley - Queen Creek Branch to celebrate the importance of establishing stronger relationships between adults and youth by leading the Day for Kids effort in our community.

The Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids is a day set aside each year to celebrate and honor America's children by spending meaningful time with them. It's about celebrating kids--children, grandchildren or any child in need of mentoring.

Queen Creek's Day for Kids event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Queen Creek Community Center. Kids ages 5 to 18 years are invited to come enjoy fun activities including carnival games, face painting, a carnival magician and more!

Research shows that when adults spend meaningful time with kids, it helps kids develop a positive self-image and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purpose. The Families and Work Institute's study, "Ask the Children," found that, while children are happy with the amount of time their parents spend with them, they wish the time together was not rushed but focused and rich in shared activities.

Parents and other child caregivers know that there is a relationship between the amount of meaningful time adults spend with children and issues facing youth today, such as discipline problems, violence, substance abuse and other dangers to children's health and happiness.

Each year, Americans have cars inspected, change the batteries in smoke alarms and check furnaces before cold weather. These actions are routine--things that we never forget to do. Yet, when it comes to our most important responsibility, our children, we sometimes forget to take stock of how we're doing as parents and caregivers. The Day for Kids, with its meaningful message, aims to change that.

The Day for Kids event is being sponsored by Queen Creek Marketplace with contributions from Rue21, Verizon Wireless, Bikes Direct, Frazee Paint, Personalities Salon, The Peach Tree Dental Group, and Chick-fil-A. Other businesses in the Queen Creek area sponsoring the event are Cold Stone Ice Cream and Rhino Caffé.
