Open houses will be held on Aug. 25 and Sept. 23 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Town Hall, 22350 S. Ellsworth Road, for residents to comment and ask questions on a proposed change to Queen Creek’s General Plan to incorporate an update to the Town Center Plan.
The Town’s current General Plan includes the land use plans, goals and policies for the Town Center that were in place when the General Plan was adopted in 2008. In 2009 the Town Council appointed a citizen committee to develop an update to the Town Center Plan.
Following a year-long effort by the committee, an update to the prior Town Center Plan was approved by the Town Council in April 2010. At the request of the Town Council, this staff-initiated major General Plan Amendment proposes to incorporate the results and recommendations of the completed Town Center Plan into the Town’s approved General Plan. The changes include increasing the boundary limits of the Town Center, and adding a new mixed-use land use category in the Town Center.
Applications for major amendments to the Town’s General Plan are accepted once a year and must be presented to the Town Council by December. The deadline to file a request for a major General Plan Amendment is June 15 annually. No applications were received from private property owners this year.
Those residents who are unable to attend an open house may provide comments by contacting Community Development Division Manager Wayne Balmer at 480-358-3003, or wayne.balmer@queencreek.org.
