The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) RightRoads Program in partnership with the Town of Queen Creek and Pinal County, will begin improving Ellsworth Road from approximately 1250 feet south of Empire Boulevard to Cloud Road.
Improvements include widening the existing two-lane roadway to six lanes (three travel lanes in each direction), installing curb and gutter, raised center median, bike lanes, intersection and drainage improvements at San Tan Boulevard, Riggs Road including the installation of a traffic signal) and Cloud Road.
Additional improvements include the installation of ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) traffic management technologies including new fiber connections that will transmit traffic signal coordination commands instantaneously along the Ellsworth Road corridor. “Real Time” traffic information will be transmitted using a combination of dynamic message signs, closed-circuit TV cameras, traffic detection devices and traffic signal synchronization, all interacting to improve traffic flow and reduce auto emissions, traveler delay, and traffic congestion.
Construction will begin in late August and project completion is slated for February 2011.
