The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District), in partnership with the Town of Queen Creek, began design of the third of three phases of Sonoqui Wash Channelization, a multi-use conveyance channel capable of containing a 100-year storm event within the existing natural alignment of the Sonoqui Wash.
Phase I from Higley to Chandler Heights was constructed in 2007-2008. Phase II from Chandler Heights to Riggs Road along the Main Branch and to Crismon Road along the East Branch is in design and will constructed in reaches beginning in 2010. Phase III extends from two connections with Phase II at Riggs Road. The Main Branch is along 204th Street, then southeast to Empire Blvd. A West Branch has been identified for improveent from Riggs Road south along 202nd Street to Hunt Highway. Phase III impacts 217 properties and 345 acres of delineated floodplain.
