The Town of Queen Creek is seeking input for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funds that are provided by the federal government through Maricopa County. On Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., a public meeting will be held at Town Hall, 22350 S. Ellsworth Road, to get input on the five-year Consolidation Plan that defines how these funds should be used.
CDBG funds must be used towards the following national objectives: • Assistance to low and moderate income persons • Prevention or elimination of slum and blight conditions • Addressing emergency urgent needs detrimental to health, safety and public welfare
HOME funds must be used to increase the supply of affordable housing for low to moderate-income people.
Eligible activities for one or both grants include, but are not limited to: • Construction of new or rehabilitation of existing housing for rental or homeownership programs; • Construction or reconstruction of infrastructure such as streets, lights, water and sewer improvements; • Public facilities such as senior centers, youth centers, and parks; • Public services such as homebuyer counseling; • Projects targeted to special groups such as the homeless or domestic violence victims; • Economic development activities such as downtown revitalization or micro-enterprise.
