How do you reduce the amount of waste you generate? Start by looking at the things you purchase and use on a daily basis. Here are some areas to focus on to get you started:
At Work
-
Print only when necessary.
-
Purchase printer paper made with recycled content.
-
Recycle your used printer cartridges.
-
Delete unnecessary emails and files that are stored digitally in the cloud.
-
Unsubscribe to mailing lists, catalog subscriptions and other recurring mail that you don’t find useful.
In the Bedroom
-
When shopping for clothing and linens, opt for fabrics made with natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool or silk.
-
Shop at thrift stores or online resale shops before buying new items.
-
Donate gently used clothing and other home furnishings you no longer need.
In the Kitchen
-
Treat yourself to fun fabric hand towels and napkins that can be washed and replace the need for disposable paper towels and napkins.
-
Reuse food containers to store food items and avoid single-use plastic wrap.
In the Bathroom
-
Swap liquid soap for bar soap to reduce unnecessary packaging. You can also find a number of bar soap options to replace shampoo and conditioners in a bottle.
-
Switch to reusable cotton rounds and face wipes that can be tossed in with a regular load of laundry.
-
Buy recycled toilet paper. Avoid flushable wipes that clog sewer pipes and are slow to biodegrade.
